Film with a similar text, The Ring

hey guys,

I am soon to begin an english assignment for school whereby I have to compare two similar texts ie. a book and a film in a connected text study. I was wondering if anyone has read or has knowledge on a book which has either a similar theme, motif or a symbolistic relation to the film, The Ring?

I'm a little confused, do you have to compare a book to a movie with a similar plot? I'm not sure if you know, but the movie The Ring was based on a novel Ringu by author Koji Suzuki. I've read Ringu and while the original Japanese film retains a good chunk of the plot, the American movie The Ring has very little semblance to the original novel except that a journalist investigates a tape that kills people after seven days. Maybe you could compare the movie to the novel Ringu?

If you can't use the same book that is the source material for The Ring, maybe compare Dark Waters (the book) to the movie The Ring. Dark Waters was was also a novel (also by Koji Suzuki) before it was remade into films in both Japan and the US... it has a similar feel to Ringu.

I know there were other US movies that had similar plots to The Ring...had to Google this one...there is the movie One Missed Call that was released earlier this year. I haven't seen it but I believe it was about people dying shortly after receiving a phone call on their cell.
