Anybody making New Years Resolutions? and does anybody ever follow through?

I always make a dozen or so but don't always follow through on them.

Hmmm...I don't really make any, since I never manage to actually follow through :)

Though I guess if there's is one for next year which I should really try and stick to is to stop doing assignments 1-2 days before the deadline!

I make them but never follow thru completely. For 2009 I'm committing myself to only 2:

#1 - stop smoking. Last attempt I got as far as 10 days
#2 - lose about 40 pounds. Not going to be easy since I will stop smoking

Anybody making New Years Resolutions? and does anybody ever follow through?

This makes me remember a long-ago-don't-quite-remember Huey Dewey & Louie story about new year resolutions ... haha!

No, I have none. But I have a good change, for next year: job! I'll change back to my field of work, and I'm very happy about it! It's all settled for the first week of January! :thumbs_up

AT LAST!

I should write something about it in the Boast Post, but I have to say that I'm afraid of doing that ... Tough days ahead!

2009 promises a chalenging, but wonderful year!

Lets wait, and go through this crazy thing of New Year feastings ... Specially in Rio ... :alien:

This year to a) focus more on my studies
b) record everything I do in my journal
c) get to work on that long-poem I've been planning for a few years now (wrote a few lines this week, finally, after not penning a line of verse in a couple of years).
d) argue less, though in all likelihood, I will probably argue more.

2) Learn lots and lots.

1) Do well at school, study a lot more and really use all the resources I have.
2) Create that film that I've planned for the Year 12 graduation
3) Keep my room clean
4) Better individual friendships, we work well as a group, but there are certain individuals that I should talk to more, spend more time with, etc. from within the group.
5) Eat healthier
6) Do more exercise
7) Spend more time at the beach and parks and other places.
8) Learn how to use a sewing machine (without blowing it up this time)
9) Attend those media courses I've been looking into
10) Go to a music concert (which involves 11) Save more money)

Normally I use the end of the year as an excuse to just do whatever, with the thought "I'll start over at New Years", but this year I started work on them early, so instead of begining them in the new year, I'll be able to carry them through and improve on them :)

If I manage to keep them all up, it will certainly be a first.

1. Lose 20 more pounds. I know it is a stereotypical one, but I need to lose some more weight.
2. Find time to do things for me like read and draw.
3. Get that tattoo I've been planning for a couple years inked on;)
4. Finish writing my book. This is huge for me. I've no real expectation of publication, but I would like to finish my tale and maybe send it out to see what happens.
5. Don't take all the good things in life for granted. This has been a rough year for my family, and I would love to just enjoy all the good moments as they com.
6. Control my temper better. This is the same one each year, but I always think there is room for improvement.

Libri,

Wow! So you like cellos! Why should you give up a dream now! Its not too late, I taught some little ones cello and an old lady aged 62 and I think the old lady is much more accomplished than an other. The bottom line is that AGE SHOULDNT BE A FACTOR TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP YOUR DREAM! Go for it, find a cello teacher and learn! Can I ask what is a mandolin? Sorry for the lack of knowledge! Oh yeah, more males play cello over females, and I always thought that cello was more manly cause when you play it you have to open your legs a lot (disturbing descriptions I know..sorry!) So for me the first time when I saw a pretty cellist wearing a dress have to engage in that position, it looked a bit weird. Especially when I played at school, guys where staring and commenting about the position  Men in the other hand is no problem.

Hey thanks for your encouragement! I finished learning it 2~3years ago and it made me a bit lazy to not practise everyday, and its crucial for any musician to practise everyday. I hope your progress with the mandolin is going well!

I don't usually make hard and fast resolutions as such, as I think it's setting yourself up for a fall. I do sort of have goals or intentions I want or need to do, but I don't say by such and such time. For instance, I need to get a lot of work done on my house, but it's all dependent on money etc. I hope I can start some of the jobs this coming year, and will try my best to get them done. I also need to lose weight, as it's crept on again, but I think everyone makes the resolution to get fit in the New Year. My daughter gets married this year, so I am aiming at succeeding here, as I need to get my outfit. However, I have loads of festive food in, so I won't start seriously until it's all gone. As usual I bought far too much, and I can't bear the thought of waste. I've done it before, so I know I can do it again, by following a healthy eating and exercise regime. I don't follow faddy diets. I just need to cut out the c**p and start exercising more again, (hopefully). And of course, I always endeavour to read certain books, but I probably won't succeed there. If I ever plan to do anything, I'm always scuppered, so I choose to be a bit more flexible about things now. I hope you all have a great New Year, and are successful in your goals :).

To all those wishing to quit smoking or to lose weight, I heard on the radio you're much more likely to stick to your resolution if you do it in stages, ie gradually cut down on how many you smoke a day, instead of jumping in at the deep end, so to speak.

Personally, I don't have any resolutions, but I would like to learn a second language, start piano lessons, and dedicate more time to my uni work.

This year I want to loose some more weight, work out more regularly, finish my house, have a bountiful garden, sleep regularly, and have a good balance in my life. I did pretty good on last year’s resolutions.

I'm stuck at the same weight. I still lack two bathroom cabinets, one toilet and trim work on the house. I didn't even put out a garden. I have improved on my sleeping habits. Looking at these failures makes me think I really bombed balance.

I would like to do something in way of helping others... Donating money every now and then is good but I would like to do something in my (somewhat non-existent) free time as well.Another resolution:

Will read something by at least 11 authors whose works I have not read so far.

Maybe we can turn this into a Forum Challenge?

Perhaps hospice? I volunteer there and really like it :)

I have already done really well on my resolution! Lose weight. I've already lost 15-20 lbs. Bikini body, here I come!

Started with 3.
1. I broke last night- quitting drinking...maybe next year
2. 500 calorie a day diet-this one is going well.
3. Stay single all year- This one will be the most interesting to see how it concludes lol.

of the three I figure the second one will last the longest, that being probably until my birthday.

2. 500 calorie a day diet-this one is going well.

You need to eat more than that - like, four times more.

500X4=2,000 O.O ARE YOU KIDDING? I dont think I have ever consumed that many in a day... I did the count for a day and split it in half. and ended up with me consuming 800-900 a day so I went with rounding to 1,000... I don't eat much its that dance thing. Got use to the calorie limit in school and just carried it to college I guess.

No, really - the average 18 year old needs about 2000 calories a day. You can calculate exactly how many you need here:

1. Sell the novel I finished last year.
2. Write another one.
