Hello

I am writing a monograph about ruined buildings in France, and am seeking references for the chapter focussing on ruined buildings in literature. I have a reference from La Grande Breteche, Balzac and from the First World War writings of Edith Wharton and Ralph Adams Cram. Desperately seeking more

Any suggestions here

Shouldn't you be having a look at Gothic literature?

I think you should be able to find ruins in Chateaubriand's Mémoires d'outre-tombe or Le génie du Christianisme as well, and in most of his other books. He was fascinated by ruins!

I also thought of one of the strangest books I've ever read: Le rivage des Syrtes, by Julien Gracq (with the ruins of Sagra). But it doesn't take place in France, and I have the impression you're studying real ruins, no?
