It is rumored that this literature forum may hold seminars/live chats periodically using MSN messenger.

I have spent some time this week end installing MSN messenger on my computer, and updating my profile with the three messengers that I now have available.

I visited the Members List and sorted it in descending order by the number of posts. I then viewed each person's profile, and where I saw MSN, I added them to my contact list.

I have had several rewarding conversations as a result of this exercise.

I therefore encourage members to update their profile with their messenger info. One person has suggested to me that people are reluctant because they do not want to be pestered with random solicitations from strangers. I pointed out that there is more to be gained from a few interesting contacts than there is from the peace and quiet and isolation of anonymity. Besides, one may ignore or block with the click of a button.

I am VERY slow to learn new things like MSN messenger (not that it's rocket science). I suppose what I should really say is that I am very slow to develope the proper instincts and reflexes when I am working quickly. BUT, this morning, I had an error because my phone cord was not plugged in. After I had been on line for a while, I minimized some windows, and saw a message, which in my haste I did not read, because it was unfamiliar, and in the back of my mind I said, "Oh, this must be some error message from leaving the cord unpluged" so I clicked "X" to close it. THEN I saw the same kind of message underneath. It was two people who had added me to MSN. It may take me some time to develop the habit of recognizing those MSN messages, and adding people to my list. But now, those are gone for good and I cannot learn who they are, which I feel is a shortcoming in the messenger design. Anyway, if you have some desire to put me on my messenger, let me know, because I may have simply clicked the wrong option in ignorance.

Oh so you might have been one of the many random people that seem to have bene trying to add me recently...I might have refused you I fear, but now I'll re-add you cos I know... It's not a question of anonimity, I dont like random contacts simply because counting people I met on various forums and people from real life, I have far too many contacts... If the random ones turned out to be itneresting, I'd simply never disconnect the damn addicitve chatty thing... :) I dont think I ve ever put a profile there nor I will, I decided not to make myself too "public" in the net anymore (I do it enough here anyway :D)

This is so comical. I add everyone I can find in profiles with MSN to my messenger. Then, every so often, someone logs on, sees me on their list, and totally freaks out. "Who the h-ll are you? What are you doing on my list? What do you want with me."

And all I say is "I add everone from online-literature.com/forums who has MSN"

And then they say "oh, interesting....."

But, I mean, that is what member profiles and MSN are for. Right?
