Sonnet #103

CIII.br /br /Alack, what poverty my Muse brings forth,br /That having such a scope to show her pride,br /The argument all bare is of more worthbr /Than when it hath my added praise beside!br /O, blame me not, if I no more can write!br /Look in your glass, and there appears a facebr /That over-goes my blunt invention quite,br /Dulling my lines and doing me disgrace.br /Were it not sinful then, striving to mend,br /To mar the subject that before was well?br /For to no other pass my verses tendbr /Than of your graces and your gifts to tell;br /And more, much more, than in my verse can sitbr /Your own glass shows you when you look in it.
