What do Equal Rights mean to you?

Is this a trap, a trick question? Oh well, I'll bite.

Equal='of the same quantity, size,value....having the same rights, ability, rank.'

Right= 'what is right, just, a privelage, a power'.

In today's world the term is used when referring to equality between men and women (equal wages for equal value jobs, equal opportunities, etc.) or different factions of a single society, e.g. different spiritual beliefs, educational needs, voting rights, segregational issues, etc., the idea being to eliminate any prejudice against any specific faction deemed to be limited in its ability to fully enjoy all the benefits of a given society, on a level footing.........

Whew!!! *wipes forehead* A long winded answer to a simple question......sorry.

It would appear that even the most fundamental requirement for a functioning society require complicated explanations.
I'm just interested in knowing what the concept of equal rights mean to you, as an individual. Personally i feel it means more than just the right for man and woman to be equal.
None of that was any critiscism of your answer. I'm pleased that someone replied, since it feels like a very heavy question, once you've mulled the answers over with yourself.

well, your question could've been taken for a poem and not been answered for that reason. ;)
i'm not sure how = rights could be interpreted as anything but = rights. it's right there in all its mathematical glory.
*mulls over 'what it means to me.'*
i'm sure it'll take a few millenia for it to exist on a good portion of planet earth...

Maybe the answer is found in the compilation of the words, and not it's mathmatical structure.

I came across the question after having visited the Jewish Museum in Berlin. Personally i'm an atheist, but after having been through all three floors of the exhebition, there was a funny tree, on which hung peices of paper, written by the visitors. On the paper, was written, "What do Equal Rights mean to you?" And then the rest was up for interpretation.
While reading some of the written answers, it occured to me how deep that question really is. Somebody had wriiten, "It will never be real." and next to it hung one which read, "Everything..." in all it was deeply moving, and i puzzled over it for many days after, and just thought that for my own curiosity, would like to see what other opinions of this could be.
My own opinion? I would regard Equal rights as something of an opportunity, to be who you are, and the world for a difference.

I think equal rights are a step in the right direction, a start of a global community without barriers, and well, each journey needs to start at some origin.
