Hello
i have just joined this forum to get to know all the classics etc as i really wnat to read books I have never read and should have! I have a question already: Who wrote teh book, and what is it called where teh guy talks about teh currents taking us where we don't want to go in the very last chapter of teh book? It is a famous love story about a girl who is married i think or maybe divorces for her lover? I know this is vague, but it is a classic and i was hoping someone would know... thanks:)

Oh its ok, I found it! :) it was the Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald who ends the book with the sentence "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne ceaselessly into the past," which contradicts Gatsby's fervent belief that one can escape his origins and rewrite his past.
hey it feels good to have solved the mystery!

Hey
Welcome to the forum! Let your imagination and sense of humour and double posting run wild. Ok maybe not the last thing - that's my trademark. Glad you liked the Great Gatsby. I think there is a thread on it already so feel free to write your thoughts. Don't worry if it's not 'intellectual'. No one is grading you (i hope not anyway) and honest individual thoughts always mean much more than what someone else said/thought. Remember, imitation/plagiarism is suicide. Emerson?
Have fun posting!

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, isn't it awful when your brain wont let a thing go until you have found it!

Aww. I know the feeling. When I have time to do anything I want I'm just too tired. Take it a page at a time.
