Sonnet #96

XCVI.br /br /Some say thy fault is youth, some wantonness;br /Some say thy grace is youth and gentle sport;br /Both grace and faults are loved of more and less;br /Thou makest faults graces that to thee resort.br /As on the finger of a throned queenbr /The basest jewel will be well esteem'd,br /So are those errors that in thee are seenbr /To truths translated and for true things deem'd.br /How many lambs might the stem wolf betray,br /If like a lamb he could his looks translate!br /How many gazers mightst thou lead away,br /If thou wouldst use the strength of all thy state!br /But do not so; I love thee in such sortbr /As, thou being mine, mine is thy good report.
