Just started this - chapter 4 is pretty funny with differences between Carol and Bea's first impression of Gopher Prairie's business section.
I think I'm really going to enjoy this book.

And so you've had a chance to finish it, what did you think?

Never read Main Street, but I loved Babbitt. Despite its age, it seems very applicable to contemporary middle America. Oddly, I can't imagine such a book being written today... the middlebrow, self-satisfied philistine George Babbitt might be seen as that object of unquestioned veneration, the "entrepreneur". Or, worse, he might be seen as a victim...
I'd like to read Main Street, but I've put it at the back of my list, fearing that it may seem repetitive of Babbitt. Thoughts?

Curly,
Try Main Street. Babbitt deals with a man and his life in a medium size city. Main Street deals with a young, educated woman who marries a small town doctor and tries to bring big city culture to this small town. Her experience is sometimes funny, sometime infuriating, but very representative of how we treat each other today. Everybody in the story is naive at one level or another. I like it more than Babbitt, because Babbitt's mid-life crisis struck a little to close to home for a guy my age.
