what do you think would have been the content of chapter 2 of emmanuel goldsteins theory and practice of oligarchical collectivism?
winston skips to chapter 3,war is strength in the novel, then back to chapter 1
chapter 2,freedom is slavery?
orwell may have left this open for future discussion as this is possibly the most open for discussion amongst us,the masses(proletariat),and could be the most empowering individually and as a collective to ensure the party never does become a reality.

Yeah, I've always wondered why 2 got left out. It could be just as simple as Orwell feeling that he'd covered that mechanism in the book in the course of events.
Or as you suggest, he might have wanted discussion on it.
Damn the man for dying so soon afterwards! If he'd lived nowadays, we'd have had him cured in weeks.

the power or right to act, speak,or think freely.2 the state of being free is the state of being a slave, chapter 2,(unwritten).
powerful words but i had not considered this had been covered in the rest of the novel, thankyou athiest.
shame orwell did not live on longer, like his teacher aldous huxley,
there are some fantastic interviews with huxley on youtube if anyone is interested.

after further reading of the theory and practice of oligarchical collectivism it does seem that maybe he did not need to write chapter 2.as chapter one, ignorance is strength could be substituted for freedom is slavery and the personal individual politics of 1984 are covered in this section.and as athiest said orwell did cover chapter two's mechanism in the rest of the book.
im sticking with my conjecture at present as i would have loved to have been challenged in this way whilst i was studying.
maybe one day i will get the time to sit down in peace and quiet and really think about what chapter 2 may have said.thats after i have had the chance to go fishing though,i wonder if that pool i discovered when i was a child is still there?nobody had ever fished it,maybe one day..............................

I'm also kind of glad he skipped chapter 2. Because Chapter 1 and Chapter 3 were so flat and repetitive I almost wanted to skip them. He chopped the subjects Ignorance is Strength and War is Freedom to pieces with multiple examples and extreme repetition. Though essential to the book Chapter 2 was not needed after the descriptions of the other two. :D
