What i am curious of is do the proles even know how lucky they are? Are they jealous of the people who can afford telescreens? The Shop owner tells Wilson "...and i never seemed to feel the need of it somehow." Do they even know what a telescreen does, or that it is required of the inner and outer parties to have one? They are distracted so a revolt doesn't happen, but do they know the have the capability to revolt? :alien:

Nobody buys himself telescreens; Party is installing them so they can easily control who ever they want.

The Party makes sure they don't know they are capable of a coup d’état. That's why ignorance is strength. They give the Proletariat distractions like the lotto and pornosec so they stay ignorant and unknowing. No one buys a telescreen. Why would they want to? Why would the proles want one? So they can get spied on?

Since the prols are not watched by the telescreens couldn't this be an oppertunity to revolt? Now some would say that the prols are to ignerant to care but I believe that there not intellagent because no one ever taught them. Well why don't one of the party members who is against BB get the pro:)ls together and plan a revolt? The prols could be eaiasly brainwashed again! Or they won't because they are scared. I guess my question is why not?

It goes back to the three central tenets - war is peace, freedom is slavery & ignorance is strength.
This is why Oceania must be at war the entire time. Britain has an amazing record of factions working together during war over the past 1000 years. Because they assume they are "at war", there is a desire to work for the Party.
They have the illusion of freedom while actually being beasts of burden.
They are kept ignorant of the facts that there needs to be a change, and also as to the mechanism which could create change.
The Party has created the perfect vehicle for immortal rule.

i agree with all the above, winstons discussion with the old man in the pub highlights i think the way the proles thought,a top hat to the old man was just a top hat,not a symbol of capitalist domination.very frustrating to winston who wanted a wider political discussion but his efforts were futile.
orwell was most definately talking to the working classes with his views on the proles i think, ignorance is not strength!
