So I'm working on an essay about the power of sex and how this is portrayed through various dystopias. The problem is, I'm rather stuck with it and would be very grateful for any thoughts or opinions to get me thinking again.
I also just find it a facsinating subject and love to discuss it with people.

Oh, and if anyone has books they think should be read for such a project go ahead and suggest away (so far I've read Women on the Edge of Time, 1984, Anthem, Herland, We, The Giver)

The Handmaid's Tale might be an effective text for this topic.

You should read Brave New World, as it delves into the topic of sex quite a bit.

Yes, I would make this novel your first stop.

The colour Purple? Although that isn't really a dystopian novel as such, But I definitely agree with the handmaids tale by Attwood and Brave new world are good choices...

Brave New World and 1984 would be very interesting to compare. In one it's forbidden and in the other it is compulsory.
