How is edgars story an effective counterpoint to the events in lears family?

How is edgar's story an effective counterpoint to the events in lear's family? Lear disowns his angelic daughter, Cordelia: Gloucester his son dutiful, Edgar. The two fathers pay dearly for such poor judgement - with desolation and, finally, with death.

Both fathers are unable to distinguish between sincere love- love that does not need too many words, but is communicated through the power of feelings- and mere, evil flattery exercised by Edmund (in Gloucester's case), and Goneril and Regan (in Lear's case).
