Say you have a good idea, but how would you go about starting it?

I do not have time to type it all out (a novel persay) and there is no way that I would write it by hand.
Yet even if you do manage to get it all typed up, how would you 'get it out there'?
I don't have any connections, and I'm young. Yet how would you go about doing this?

If you do not have the time to type or write out your idea, just write down the main idea in a notebook that you take everywhere you go (I have a small one that accompanies me, yes I do). Gather your thoughts in little point form -- what the gist of your idea is, how it begins, ideas for the middle, a couple of endings (or more). As time goes on, fill in the holes. If you truly have a burning desire to write, this 'task' will get accomplished.

As for publishing -- I'd say for you to go to your local library and look up all that you can on 'getting yourself published' -- there is so much to say. From Cover Letter Etiquette, to the How-To's of what they want, to Agents, and all that jazz... Mind boggling, but great fun.

Good luck. :)

There is no obvious common way to get started. As everyone has his or her way of the life. They may choose their own way to begin with writing too. Credibility of the writing depends upon many terms of personal attitudes. So you can follow them and approach your own goals. :yawnb: :)

Before you even begin to think about writing, you have to READ!
Read everything you can get your hands on-- books, newspapers,
magazines, backs of cereal boxes -- no, really. When you read something, ask yourself not only WHAT the author is saying, but
HOW he or she says it.

Secondly, start collecting words the way plumbers collect tools. Words are YOUR tools.

Third, read some books and articles about techniques of writing.

What I'm saying is: Do you think Michael Phelps became a champion swimmer just by jumping in the water, or that Eric Clapton became the best living guitarist in the world just by picking up an instrument and started to strum? No, they had to learn their craft. And that's what I'm saying to you: learn the craft.

So start reading.

I agree wholeheartedly, Auntie. However, if this guy hasn't got the time to type up his story, where's he going to find time to read? Maybe he should get another hobby - one that's less time consuming.
