I thought i'd set up this thread so that, if i come across any new titles in work that may be of interest to anyone here, i'll let you all know.
I work for a large booksellers in Ireland wo i see hundreds of new books a year.

For all lovers of Pride and Predjudice, Australian Author Colleen McCullough has brought out a "sequal" to the book called The Independance of Mary Bennett

I really like Vintage books for their book covers, and in light of this years Man Booker List so far, they have released nine special edition covers of nine books that have won the Booker over the years. So any collectors out there interested they look like this
http://www.themanbookerprize.com/news/stories/1248
(and other that that comp which is closed) should be available in all stores. :)
The list is;

Amsterdam by Ian McEwan (1998)

Disgrace by J. M. Coetzee (1999)

How Late It Was, How Late by James Kelman (1994)

Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie (1981)

Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha by Roddy Doyle (1993)

Possession by A.S. Byatt (1990)

The Famished Road by Ben Okri (1991)

The Gathering by Anne Enright (2007)

The Sea, The Sea by Iris Murdoch (1978)

It's on the best seller lists here - I can't morally bring myself to buy it though.

I dont blame you. Other than laughing when i first saw it, i actually cringe at the thought of what they have done to it.

I have a question - are threads like these legal to make on this forum for posting thoughts on books one person has read, and giving personal or is such activity better suited for a blog?

About a year ago, Douglas Adams Estate asked Irish Author and funny man Eoin Colfer if he would write a sixth installment of the series.... and he did.
On the 12th of October And Another Thing... is released on the 30th aniversary of the publication of The HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy.
:D Personally i cant wait as i'm a big fan of Colfer!

I really like Vintage books for their book covers...

I agree. The restrained Picasso on the Vintage Don Quixote is beautiful. Plus the translation by Grossman is superb, as are the footnotes & introduction (and price!)

He has a similar humour to Douglas Adams which are shown continuously throughout the Artemis Fowl Series. That and he now does stand up shows thanks to a rant about airports, delayed flights and planes he did in Edingburgh (i think) when he was supposed to be talking about his books. :D wasnt until he was walking off the stage when he remember what he was there to do! :D

I'm worried. Cautiously worried.

Afraid he may not do justice to the books? I'm a bit iffy about it too, but in truth, if there was anyone i think could pull it off, its definitely Colfer. but thats my opinion.

I read the first couple of pages in the bookstore today. So far so good!

I'm still waiting for the paperback, or for me to finally give in and pay more than $20 for it, man I really don't want to do that.
