View Full Version : The Siege of Benwick?
Wow, I am so freakin' confused! Can someone PLEASE help me understand The Siege of Benwick? My teacher needs me to write who I feel is more heroic in the story. Who is? I know many of may feel that Lancelot is, but the fact that he falls in love with Gwynevere totally undermines all of his heroic qualities. I'm still so confused on the story. Can someone tell me a brief summary and who's most heroic knight other than Lancelot? I don't want to say Lancelot is because I don't feel like he is, and I know everyone else in my class is going to say him.

I would say write who you think is the most heroic and back that up with evidence in the text. Pick out quotes and character actions and have confidence in your own opinion, what the rest of the class is doing or thinking is irrelevant.

It could be that everyone else in the class is right. You might like to think of Lancelot in terms of classical tragedy, in which the convention is for the hero to be perfect except for one "fatal flaw," in this case the illicit love, which leads to the tragedy.
Of course the Lancelot/Arthur/Guinevere story differs from the normal tragedy in that the main protagonists do not all die in a tragic way within the story.
