I would like to know books similar to Steppenwolf (Herman Hesse) in the matters of mood and composure.

cfgs, did you try looking up other Hermann Hesse books? I liked "Narcisius and Goldman" very much. I also loved his novela "Demian". I read these along with "Steppenwolf", when I was back in college, years and years ago....

Which aspects of the style of Steppenwolf are you looking for? If you are seeking out something of the Expressionism/Surrealism... then I might suggest Bulgakov's Master and Margarita, Kafka's Trial, Frank Wedekind's "Lulu" plays, Gunter Grass' Tin Drum might be in the right direction.
