Hello all, first story posted so this seemed a some what appropriate choice. Although not my very first story written it is the first I was reasonably satisfied with. I would very much appreciate constructive criticism. I'm just a poor cable guy from Michigan so i expect quite a bit of it :D Let me know what you think.

An introduction, of sorts.

Lord Mardon looked up from his reports, he hated being interrupted while reading his reports but the young sergeant seemed unwilling to be ignored. “yes sergeant?” He asked.

“ A pair of priests Sir. They were brought in by the guard and they say, the guard that is, say that you need to judge their crime for yourself sir.”

“ Can't the magistrate adjudicate this himself?”

“Apparently not Sir.”

Mardon put down his reports with a snort of derision and folded his hands waiting expectantly. “Well? bring them in.”

The sergeant left and brought in two men. One young man dressed in a white robe with short blond hair, brown eyes, a healthy skin tone and an obnoxiously cheery demeanor. The other man, if indeed it was a man, was dressed in a completely black robe with a dark hood drawn over his face and hands tucked in his sleeves. Long brown hair hung limply from out of the hood and when a sliver of flesh shone from between the sleeves it was pale, almost till translucent. He wore an odd bracelet around his left wrist and a large handled dagger on his right hip. While the man in white made the lord feel unnaturally healthy and content, the man in black made him feel beyond his age, and tired as his grandfather looked on his deathbed. The men were also accompanied by an almost inaudible humming which made Lord Mardon uncomfortable. Upon entering the man in white almost immediately began speaking.

“ Lord Mardon it is TRULY a pleasure to meet you. My name is Eddard and this is my brother Mikale. I do hope your feeling well. You look well. My stay in your lovely city has been marvelous. Everyone one is so polite and helpful. I wish you nothing but good health and prosperity.”

Mardon winced as this all came out in a rushed overly cheery voice.” And what, pray tell, has has brought you to my 'lovely' city, and more importantly to my office, and what is that gods cursed humming noise?”

“We are in your lovely city to fulfill our service to the twin gods of light and shadow. I'm not sure why we have been brought to your office, though I can assure you its no inconvenience at all, and the humming is brother Mikale My lord. He travels a more difficult path than I and requires constant communion with our gods to maintain himself when in full light. The rigors of shadow are taxing on the body you see.”

“Sergeant,”began Mardon,”Can YOU enlighten me as to why their here?”

“Yes Sir, It seems they founded a small temple near the market square Sir, and some of the vendors didn't like it you see, what with most of the city holding with the Earth Father and all. So late at night a few of em and two guardsmen got some torches and whatnot and tried burning it down. Thats when these two killed em Sir. Killed em all.”The sergeant finished in a hushed tone.

“How many were there Sergeant?”
“Nearly thirty Sir, as well as privates Dowly and Gid.”

“Your trying to tell me these two killed almost thirty men as well as two enlisted men on their own?”

“Actually Milord, If I may?”, interrupted Brother Eddard ” Brother Mikale killed them all Sir, I am sworn to do no violence and he was protecting me you see.”

“He killed thirty men alone?”

“Yes sir, He's quite good at defending me. It's all He's ever trained for since we were children.”

Lord Mardon rubbed his eyes with his hands. This was not how he liked to start his day. “ And what, exactly, are your intentions, in my city Brother Eddard?”

“ We wish only to offer protection and succor to your people Lord and spread understanding of the twin gods.”

“And did these priests in any way instigate this attack Sergeant?”

“Ehh, no Sir. They came in about a week ago, set up shop as it were and have hardly left their temple cept to by supplies Milord.”

After a moments thought Mardon stood up. “ As defending yourself is no crime I must release you as is the cities law, but I will be keeping an eye on you Priest. Most people, myself included, stand by the Earth Father here and if I find your up to any kind of trouble I'll be rid of you one way or another. Do you understand me priest?”

“ Most clearly your excellency,” chirped brother Eddard,” and I know I speak for Brother Mikale when I say may the twin gods guide and protect you in all your endeavors.”

As the two brothers bowed and turned to leave Lord Mardon could hear Brother Eddard chattering at brother Mikale as they walked down the hall.”Wasn't he pleasant brother? I think We'll do very well here. With such a marvelously understanding man in charge the rest of the populous must be equally charming. Such a terrible misunderstanding last night I see nothing but clear skies ahead, by the twins I do...” As the priests voice trailed off in the distance Mardon rubbed his eyes in frustration again. This was not any way to start his day.
