The Life of Shoes

sometimes I don't like being myself
I wish I could try on someone else's life
like so many pairs of shoes
tall ones and short ones,
beautiful ones and ugly ones,
worn ones and new ones,
expensive ones and cheap ones,
until I found a pair that is just right
not too tight across the toe
or too big along the middle
or too hard on my heel
or too mushy for my arch
one that is just right
a pair that feels perfect
somehow I think I'll be stuck with this
one pair
the one pair I have on right now
too be frank there's holes in it
it feels too small
my toes hurt and my heel calluses
this life is too small
too old
too unimportant
also,
this life is starting to smell
