Family Roots

Deep in my heart is a seed
that bleeds in a vessel of love
that makes and creates
and relates
my dreams to my screams
and my soul to my goals.
I have been shown a love so real and I feel
I am part of something so strong
that I long to be all I can be.
To be shaped and molded
I am made to reflect the intellect
of the struggles of my mother
and my grandmother
and the ancestors of my past.
The roots of the redwood forest grow to support
the tallest and most magnificent trees
and I see within myself
a vision that God has given me
but my mother has shown me
and my sister has owned to me.
My father, although broken,
stands to strengthen me
and it is through my past with him
that I am able to move forward and make an impact.
My essence grows deepest
in the one thing that has sustained me,
claimed me,
and created me
the one thing I love the most
my family.
