I picked up the cheap Monas translation the 7 buck paperback. Had no problem with it. After finishing the novel, I found re reading it surprisingly more interesting, picking up on more details etc...
But I know Pevear/Volchonsky are generally the standards. Am I being too anal or is it worth, if someone really wants to reread it, check out their translation?
Has anyone tried re-reading with different translations for the hell of it? I'm just curious.
I'm currently reading the Pevear Transation of Notes From Underground - a bit difficult every now and then for a brief sentence or two, but since that book is short and inexpensive, I'm thinking of trying an alt. translation next time around as I definitely will re read this gem.
