By chance, looking through an old British newspaper, I came across the reported closure and demolition of an old London "pub" I used to frequent. Giving rise to what follows...


The Norfolk Arms


Dear Norfolk,
now an amputee?
Your Arms,
reduced to rubble be?
A cry of despair,
"Woe unto thee!"
Your like,
will not be seen again!


Bitter flows
the sorrowful tear.
For, no more bitter flows,
to give good cheer!
Saddened, we do "greet",
I fear.
Your like,
will not be seen again!


Pale ale, lager,
what e're our wont,
of beverage fair,
you were the font!
Where go we now,
for all our wants?
Your like,
will not be seen again!


Good companions,
to the winds,
lost to life's fey wanderings.
Laughter, dim lights
friendly barracking.
Lost art of darts,
wistful remembering.
Since...your like,
will not be seen again!
