I have been thinking ahead to my future reading and cannot decide what I want to read next, or rather I should say next, next. I know that is a long way off, but I could not help but to ponder it. After The Ambassadors, I know I want to read A Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, but after that I want to read another classic, but I cannot decide which one.

I have three in mind, and well I thought Niamh's post looked like a good idea, so I thought I would try it to help me decide.

Which of these classics should I read after Bird Chronicle?

The Day of the Locust

Well I voted for Day of the Locust. That book is one of my favorites.

I, Claudius - one of the most palatable ways of acquainting yourself with a period of distant history as I've come across. Trouble is, you'll have to make time to read Claudius the God soon afterwards! Ambition, lust, murder, revenge, it's got the lot! Oh, love and compassion too. Then get hold of the tv adaptation with Derek Jacobi - getting on for thirty years old but still compulsive viewing. (Then for an absolute and total contrast, try Lindsey Davies' Falco books, which move the story on to the time just following when Vespasian became emperor - not Literature with a capital L but great fun and light relief after the intensity of Claudius.)

I am an avid reader of historcial fiction, so that one sounds quite interesting.
