What do you think?

I usually walk barefoot, so I don't really know. I have calluses too

I saw a girl in McDonald's yesterday and she was not wearing shoes. That's so gross. What if someone peed on the floor in the bathroom. What if someone else walked into the bathroom and stepped in the pee, and then went tramping out through the McDonald's leaving pee remnants all over the place. And then the girl, who is barefoot, is walking through pee remnants. The thought is revolting.

Whenever I'm at home, and it's warm enough, I don't wear shoes. However, it does give you hard soles, not so great when you want to cuddle up with someone.

That has to be against store policy. What happened to the No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service!!!

It's ok if she doesn't have a cut on her foot or anything but it's not like it's going to affect her in any way.

I only wear shoes when going out. I also should mention my mom is asian and demands that we all take our shoes off when entering the house. I'm a lot more comfortable without them.

And I can't believe someone was walking around McDonalds without shoes. Even if the bathroom was clean and didn't have urine all over the floor, who knows what other dirty things customers bring in under their shoes and wipe all over the ground.

Shoot! I voted for the wrong choice..lol
I only wear shoes when I'm going out, I can't just go out barefoot!
But I do walk barefoot at home :D

They also say that it won't hurt you if you sit on a commode where someone has left sprinkles but I'd rather not. And there are plenty of pokety things she could've stepped on prior to or after stepping in pee. I just think it's gross. There's a reason for shoes. I think heels are crazy and bad for your feet, but otherwise, I don't see the harm in protecting your feet from cuts and fungus to name a few.

did you read some of the article Shalot?

yes. I just can't imagine why this girl was in McDonald's without shoes. Is there any built in mechanism in the skin on our feet to protect us from the nastiness on the ground that can get into our skin? That's my concern. Maybe they need to design better shoes - I don't know but I am not going barefoot in my town.

:lol:Maybe they were broken? Once my flip-flops broke and i had to walk in a Macdonalds to ask someone for a phone to call home. Of course in the end I ended up walking there.....

when i'm at home i tend to walk around barefoot. In work i sometimes kick my shoes off and walk around the office in my socks, and i have been known to randomly stroll to friends houses with my shoes in my hands.

I never wear shoes inside the house, but I wear shoes outside. From that article:

Try this test: Take off your shoe, and put it on a tabletop. Chances are the toe tip on your shoes will bend slightly upward, so that it doesn’t touch the table’s surface. This is known as “toe spring,” and it’s a design feature built into nearly every shoe. Of course, your bare toes don’t curl upward; in fact, they’re built to grip the earth and help you balance.

But my bare toes do point upwards naturally. I've got really weird feet. :D

I only wear shoes when I have to. Mostly I go barefoot, I only wear shoes when I am going somewhere in the public where they make you wear shoes. There had been a few times when I would even walk my dog barefoot. And when I am camping or up in the mountains I will just walk around barefoot, though the pine needles sometimes hurt. I will also walk around hotles barefoot.

I mainly wear shoes out of the house. InspireMe, my mother doesn't like either when we wear shoes inside of the house. ;)
In the house I usually walk with socks only, which is not good for my poor socks. :( But I'm the only one to blame because I could wear my slippers but am often too lazy to do so.

Now regarding the debate about walking barefoot into pee, :p well nobody seems to realize that everyday, we touch things with our bare hands, and among all the things we touch, there must be pretty disgusting ones. ;) Think of the door handles of public toilets. :D

I wear shoes when I'm going out, but if I'm around the house, in the yard, or playing outside with my little ones I normally just skip them. I never go in stores or anything like that barefoot. I wear heels and such for work (I know they're not good for my feet, but they're so darn cute:lol:), but those are often kicked off under my desk when I'm there. I do remember as a little kid the only time I wore shoes was if we were going out. I used to run around barefoot everywhere, and I still have the tough soles of my feet to prove it. Now it is much more natural to just skip the shoes whenever possible. Prickly weeds are an issue, though, and it does get old digging debris out of your feet.

I never wear shoes at home, here everyone takes their shoes off when they come in.

I also very rarely wear high heels, usually only on some special occasions. Never when I go to school, since I have to walk four kilometres to get there.

I don't generally wear shoes in the house except when I'm cleaning, then for some reason I need to wear shoes - I even have a pair of house cleaning tennis shoes. I'm gonna say the reason to wear shoes is far greater then the reasons to not wear shoes. I'm just thinking of all the hazards out there for my feet - hot concrete, broken glass, muck of all sorts, gum, rocks, stick, and roaches not to mention other people - I've seen some really gross feet poking out of sandals could you imagine seeing the whole thing.

Well I have flat feet (no arches!) and when I was 16 I developed bunions from having worn badly fitted shoes when my feet were developing. I had surgery which was very unpleasant, and I'm very careful about shoes now. So I'd say shoes were very bad for my feet! I tend to have to 'cycle' shoes as I am yet to find a single pair of shoes that don't rub my feet someplace.

I hate shoes.

If it were possible I would never wear them. I'm not concerned about pee on the floor of McDonalds, let' face it if you're in McDonalds worrying about whats going onto your feet should hardly be your biggest health concern, but the streets are paved with stone and little bits of glass and every kind of litter you can imagine. Not a very safe place for unprotected feet. Sadly.

Shoes outdoors, none indoors. Quite often I will take off my shoes at work too but not if I'm walking about because like anywhere else people drop their cr*p on the floor and a discarded staple in the foot isn't so nice either. Grr.

I never used to like wearing shoes or socks.... But then my acupuncturist informed me of the negative consequences of that. I forget exactly what he said, but it had a lot to do with my current situation and how it was affecting me healthwise.

Niamh, I have to agree with you and Sweets, and Papaya, etc here; bathroom floors are pretty grimmy/germy - ick! I hate public ones also but normally can't avoid using them because I can't make it back home without doing so. I agree, N, all aspects of them are horrid at times.

Virgil, your toes must naturally turn up like a troll.

I was born with the two toes next to my big toe co-joined. I found out this is more common than one would think. My next door neighbor's daughter had the same thing...NO, we don't have the same father!;) My mother worried it would keep me from walking and I surprised them all by walking at 9 months.

Sweets, I saw this interesting segment on a daytime talk show while waiting in a doctor's office. Ok, this woman who was finatical about cleanliness and santizing everything was found to have the worse germ lurking right there on her purse? Ever see people out with really disgusting looking purses. Seems she would whipe down everything in public places, especially bathrooms, for herself and her two kids; however, she would plop her handbag right down on the peed on bathroom floor. Let me tell you those floors do have a variety of germs - they found about 20 harmful amebas on her purse of which about half could cause very serious illnesses. After that I wanted to just abandon public toilets and go out in the woods.

I did vote that I wear shoes all the time; but most time I mean flip-flops and flat ones at that. I once wore a pair of boots with a higher heel to a mall and came home with severe sciatica. I learned my lesson and have not worn them since. High heels are very bad for your feet, knee and back....

And by the way, Baki I did read you article; at least the first few pages of it. I found it quite interesting but still I would not go totally barefoot in public - too icky for me.

It depends on the floor. If a floor is marble, I would like to have slippers. Luckily the floors, that aren't carpeted, in my house are hardwood, therefore it is easy on the feet. Marble, and tiles, and things like that are so painful, to the point where my feet always hurt if I need to go to someone's house and take my shoes off.

My parent's didn't allow shoes in the house. Now I find it uncomfortable. Usually I seem to follow the rule: the less I am wearing, the more comfortable I am. As a result, I do not read with a shirt, or pants on, as it increases by speed by 10-15 pages per hour, and my retention by at least 15% (all my estimates).

I only wear shoes when it's practical or when not wearing shoes would draw unwanted attention. Sometimes not even when it's practical( I had blisters completely covering the balls of my feet to prove it earlier this year). The main reason that I don't like shoes is that I sweat easily, but I always wear shoes into somebody's house or when walking through the woods.
