Hello all. :)

I'm looking for a first year anniversary gift for my wife and I know that she has always wanted a collection of classic novels with the antique/fine binding look...gold leaf, etc. Now, the collection wouldn't have to be truly fine like a real collector would want...just with that nice look in hardcover.

I've searched almost everywhere I can think of and am at a loss. Someone, somewhere, must sell classics with the traditional looking display binding in hardcover. Right? ;)

Any ideas? I would be indebted to you all!

The Franklin Press, a division of the Franklin Mint, produced such books for decades... and these can still be found regularly in used book stores and on-line... but they have been out of business for some time. I don't know how much you are looking at spending but you might look here:

How about the "Collector's library" bindings from CRW publishing. They are pocket sized but they are hardback and have gold leaf. they do boxed sets too, I don't know if they are UK only mind you http://www.crw-publishing.co.uk/series.php?id=3&bya=0

Each has a proper sewn binding, and many come full-bound in cloth with gold edges, ribbon markers, and head and tailbands. Some are also available as boxed sets.
