I've never shown my poems to anyone, so still very new to criticism. Please be gentle. This is the first of a series of poems concerning "Miss Ruckabee."

Oh, this is beautiful, Cathy. I'm so glad you posted it! The length of lines, the word selection, the rhythm, indeed the topic itself of love lost, in spite of all our best intentions.... It demands, nay SHOUTS, to be read slowly and carefully, whilst curled up in one's favourite chair with a freshly brewed cup of tea close at hand. I especially loved these lines....
By swearing words meant to end evermore
The spell of real love, the spell of our bliss,
Of days in sunlight soon left to dimness.
The entire poem reminded me of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. Thank you so much. I will be coming back to read this one again, and I hope you will post many more.
Welcome to our little family of poets. I hope you'll enjoy your stay. :)

Yes, welcome, welcome! One senses that poetry runs in your blood. You write as if you were a visitor from a bygone age! What a rich and complex dynamic there lies in this (unrequited?) relationship!

I have always felt that the line:
"and they lived happily ever after."
to be the saddest phrase ever to confront a poet!:)
Am looking forward to chapter two?

I agree with Cdnreader, I am currently finishing Bronte's Jane Eyre and this reminded me of it all throughout. Nice work ;)

Ditto to all that has been said.
The voice of this poem is so true, it carried me out of 2008 into the romantic past of which it speaks so well. Well done.
