Is there not within us a powerful longing to ‘be’:
A deep echoing void of swelling emptiness,
In which mind, body and soul cry out for recognition;
Yearning for a valid reason for all the haggard breaths we take.
Again, and again, and again…
Running for endless miles and reaching nowhere,
We can look up at the stars and see only spaces;
Standing in a room packed with familiar smiles,
But still being so very alone inside;
In an isolated world within our spirits cry out:
We have a longing for eternity set into our hearts
And demand a purpose to all the suffering we endure so quietly.
We cannot escape from the desire to be found,
In the silence of our existence it is ever present,
Quietly brooding in our souls
As eternity stretches ever before us…

You can really feel the logning and lonliness in thsi poem. It has some beautiful imagery, and it is very moving.

After reading your poem it led me to reflect on who it was that said "we live lives of quiet desperation." You express that sentiment beautifully, if beautiful, is not too ironic!
