Just a tidbit about my family vacation. enjoy. :)
-----------------------

I once took a summer vacation with the family to Boulder, Colorado for my sister and her girlfriend's ceremony of "unholy matrimony". Yes, I am a Christian, but this does not hold me to any certain sort of belief, and as a Christian I believe that love in its' truest form is holy under any circumstance, straight or gay. Their marriage is just as real, if not moreso, than any heterosexual couple's I know. They didn't marry for money, for pleasure, or to remove lonliness from their lives. They didn't marry for power or for greater stature in a line of royalty. My sister and her partner married because they believe that they were made for each other. They love each other so deeply and passionately that they want to be together for the rest of their lives. And I have no doubt in my mind that they will, for they married for love, and that's as holy as it gets.

I had an argument with my father about this very subject during the drive there, and as I slowly but surely started to win the discussion, the trees started zipping by ever-faster. Fact of life: People, my dad especially, speed outrageously when angry and proven wrong. So as we are cruising around at about 90 MPH and I am nobley trying to defend my sister and her soon-to-be, my dad argues that marriage is a term coined FOR heterosexuals. He righteously says that he doesn't have any particular issue with gay people but "Marriage is OUR word, and THEY can coin their own!." He then starts preaching upon the issue of government rights and so says "If gay couples want protection and services from the ghov-ah-mint, they can get new legislation written!!". A tidbit about my father, he is a VERY stubborn man, he will always think he is right, and there is no changing his mind. So, knowing I had the argument within my clutches, I finished him off with a very demeaning appointment. "Dad, you just do not understand, your values... are in the wrong places," I said, holding the crap-bar for dear life as I angered my father to up to about 105 MPH around a sharp curve. The extra boost sending our back right tire into those nifty little bumps that tell you your about to fly off the road, which explains why my mother's voice sounded so peculiar... "G-g-g-g-a-a-r-r-y-y, s-l-o-o-w the h-e-l-l-l-l d-d-d-o-o-o-w-w-n!"

Now, I realize that I may be a bit harsh, and I know I can be a bit of a smartass, but I do my best to speak the truth about the subjects I am passionate about, and in the case of gay marriage, I truly believe I am justifiably correct. My father is the epitome of the average American when the controversial topic of gay marriage is being subjugated to discussion. He is selfish about the word itself; he doesn't want it affiliated towards homosexuality, so he claims the word is MADE for heterosexuals. His ideology is false for the simple fact that words are man-made. They do not have any REAL meaning other than the one we give them. So, if it were decided by people unlike my father, marriage could be a word MADE for homosexuals, and the only reason it is not, is because people like my father have been in power for centuries. His values ARE misplaced. He focuses on the wrong parts of what a marriage is supposed to mean. He talks of it like it is an excuse to receive government protection and money, and by thinking these things he proves that gays have every right to marry. They, like heterosexuals, love one another, and deserve the right to marriage because it is not a word coined for the exploitation of government funding, and it is not a term to be used lightly. Marriage is a binding of you, your partner, and of the Holy Spirit. And under God's Will, you join as one in holy matrimony. This, ANYONE can share, even if it not government approved or legally backed.
