With Google, of course,
one can search for anything
thought or misthought
all the way back
to that first Neanderthal
who stood upright
and tottered on legs made unsteady
by something that was going on
somewhere behind his eyes
somewhere in a space
he hadn’t even known existed
until there began to be
activity
in there....

And that activity
was thought struggling to define itself
a sort of ur-Duh, the mother
and father of all Duhs that were to follow!

With Google you could look up
“The truth” or “God” or
“Where did I leave my god-damned car keys!” or
“Why won’t Emily
put out for me?”

But the truth, I’m afraid,
is that not even Google
could answer that last one...

I like it very much! The ending especially. I also like the way it is built, with the flashback of the first stanza.

Oh YOU! Thank you very much! On the other site where I post things, someone took me to task for using the phrase "put out" as if sex between a man and a woman were a matter of one giving without necessarily receiving anything in return; but I was using it - I hope it's obvious - in parody of the way so many men see themselves vis a vis women they desire: as mendicants hoping for a bit of charity!
