As I wrote earlier to another friend of mine about "Entreaty:
I count it something of a triumph of my years of writing poetry to be able to write something so... simple? Reminds me of something my beloved Flannery O'Connor once wrote, of her far less sophisticated mother (approximately): "If my mother had a dog she might call it 'Spot' - without irony. If I had one I might call it 'spot' - with irony, but to all intents and purposes no one would know the difference." In other words, if I had written that poem when I was just starting out, it might be nothing but a sweet, naive little thing... whereas now?
