rage

and so shall we rage
insistent
unyielding
urgent voices
crying out our pain
ripping out our lungs
disembodied
breath falling
lifeless
flinging our hearts
burnt and blackened
striking our enemies
bloodless fists
dripping crimson
no quarter
no surrender
no victory
in pieces
undaunted
fallen

I really love the flow of this. Also, it's very passionate with the intense imagery. :)

I love the twist in the last two lines, the implication (I take it) that by raging without restraint we bring ourselves down?

Cathy, thanks very much for reading and commenting. I hope we'll see some poetry of yours very soon! :)

Jer, well you know how I hate to try and explain my poetry. Sometimes I'm the LAST person to consult about what it means.... but yes, I think it comes from an idea that, as much as we may like it to, rage does not equal morality, not does it necessarily mean that we'll win the battle. It may fuel the fight, but it's not everything, and if allowed to get out of control, it can be our own downfall, just as you have said here.

Umbilical, yes, that's an important thought too. Thanks for your comment!

Goldenrod, yeah, um, something like that too. ;) I guess we all take something different away from each written piece. That's the beauty of it all!

I was thinking that one may rage, but not necessarily win-but one might be willing to fight the good fight, so to speak. I like the added idea that rage does not equal morality-you know, in the heat of anger we are always sure that we are right. I remember hearing one time that righteous anger fuels itself-and that is so true.

This is a good one, Reader!

Reading this poem I feel this is really rage incarnate. Everything from the choice of words to arrangements of sentences and the meaning therein are wondrous.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Qimi. I think you've said it better than I could have! I'm not even sure where the poem came from. Rage, for me -- and even its much poorer cousin anger -- are both emotions that need to be controlled, not shared. But that's JMHO....

Blaze, you always say such nice things about my poetry. Thank you so much!

deceptively balanced polemic with a seething undercurrent.

anger or rage are just like coal-you burn your own hands while throwing it at others.

Many thanks, Whitman. I'm very glad that it left this impression.
