one of my friends told me about ten minutes ago about this book the color of water. i am veryveryvery embarrassed. i haven't heard of it; regardless, i can't believe i titled a poem the same. if you have suggestions for a new name, feel free to give them!

Hello, amuse. I think the answer to your question depends on the context of the poem. One could think of many different titles to a poem (or a book), but I think it must always yield to central themes. Do you have a typed copy of the poem anywhere?

it's here (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3724). the title is exactly what it should be, but not now that something else has the same one...is that nit-picky?

No need to feel embarrassed, amuse (lovely poem, by the way). For suggestions of new titles, I have none presently, but will notify you if any come to mind, and if you still want help. I have very little knowledge regarding copyright, but the title you have seems the most fitting; if you have any way of contacting the author or publisher of The Color of Water (the book), you could probably ask for permission to share the title.
Good luck, and I will post any future ideas.

oh! thank you. that's what bothered me without realizing it - the copyright thing, not only the creative aspect. thank you again.

I don't think you'd need to ask the author for permission, not like you were making money or otherwise tried to 'use' the title other than a name for your poem, I see it as a coincidence only. You know the thingy they always say at the end of most movies, you know, the 'any similarities to persons or events past or present are coinciden..tical? (lol) and not intended by the author'. There's always a chance someone else has thought or used something you did before you, don't really think there's a reason for changing the poem's name.
