I loved the Very Hungery Catipiller and Where the Wild Things Are

I also really liked the Dr. Seuss book Are You My Mommy

Are You My Mommy was written by P.D. Eastman, but I can see how you would get that confused.

I'm not really sure about my top 5, but I would certainly put On Beyond Zebra at the top of my list. I'll get back to you if I can ever come up with a top 5 that isn't just Dr. Seuss books.

Well it's one of those beginner books. Many of those were written by Seuss under different names so sometimes it's hard to tell.

Also, anything by Blake, though those aren't really for children.
