I’ve never been in love, but I have been in lust,
I’ve fallen for the girls beyond the screen.
I’ve never been to Heav’n, but I have been through hell,
To suffer, yes, I know just what it means.

I’ve never been a hit, but I have been th’one hit,
An artist not a fighter’s who I’ve been.
I’ve never been the best, but I have been quite blessed,
In happy mediocrity I’ll live.

I’ve never been a saint, but I have been a sinn’r,
I’ll try to stop taking more than I give.
I’ve never been a plann’r, but I have had a plan,
Myself over my plans I do outlive.

I’ve never had a car, but I have gotten far,
To walk down roads unknown where they direct.
I’ve never seen the world, but I have seen the weird,
Life’s riches can surprise with no respect.

I’ve never had much fame, but I have played the game,
And lost a lot, to win I didn’t expect.
I’ve never lived and died, but I have seen the dead,
Where does that life light go when it’s not here?

I’ve never had much cash, but I have had a cache’ ,
To hide the things of import that are dear.
I’ve never sat and stayed, but I have gone astray,
To wander ‘round the town that is so near.

In my life I have done and still I’m not yet done,
I’ve never been and I have been so much.

Oh wow, I really like this one, and it had a great rhythm to it.

I like the way you have and have not been.

Life, as you seem to soulfully surmise in your poem, has hope, as lomg as it is a continuing altered state of being towards the positive side.

@ Dark Muse: Thanks. The meter is simple (more or less, elegiac couplets) and then the opening line repetition... simple.

@gimissung: Thanks...

@goldenrod: I didn't really have a message with this one, it was more of an honest reflection. But yes, life is change, you do and don't do, and things happen or not, and if we can learn to accept it all and be happy, well, I guess there's your message. :)
