My question would be why would be why would a list of what I assume is being presented as the greatest writers of all time include a relatively minor figure as Orwell... to say nothing of several other of the choices. More to the point. If we are polling for the greatest author then beside Cervantes and Homer where are the other writers of such stature: Milton, Chaucer, Dante, Tolstoy, Montaigne, Virgil, Goethe, the anonymous writers of the Bible, perhaps Joyce and Proust?

As much as i love Shakespeare, I would call him my favourite author, and none of the others in that list would fall under that title either.

Where is Dante? Where is Leopardi? Though, I voted for the Bard because it was too tempting.

Out of all these options, George Bernard Shaw has to be my favourite. As a personal choice I will prefer Shaw's Pygmalion above any of the Shakespearian works that I have read.
