Replacing
Sometimes there's no choice
but to dig deep,
pull out handfuls of yourself
-- the parts that aren't working anymore --
and toss them behind.
Leave them to rot
in the dirt.
Then climb inside.
Sit in the emptiness
for a
...good
......long
..........while
....................................
Wait quietly
while the dark holes heal.
Wait quietly
until the edges are patched.
And when the self of you
says the time is right,
accept a new infusion
and glow.

I know what you mean. I just had a hole dug in my foot to get rid of some nastiness! The healing is about complete, but I don't know if I got completely out of there before the wound closed!:(

And how well you've used poetry as an implement to get rid of the old, fermented, no longer wholesome stuff!

Beautiful poem, cdn :)
I think that you have poetically given us some very good advice.
I liked the use of the pauses in some of the phrases, and that last stanza was very uplifting. Great work! :)
