I am grasping the side of my face with one hand, while typing with the other. My wisdom tooth seems to be rotting, from not taking the extra time to reach an extra inch into my mouth and brush it along with my other teeth. It has been so long since i've had any tooth troubles, but now I am reminded, how debilitating it can be.

All my wisdom teeth are growing in. I've been on painkillers for a week and i can't even chew well, Ive only had soup since the toothache began.

All I know is that if they don't stop hurting me I will grab the next door-to-door salesman I see and sacrifice him to Baal. :flare:

I sympathize with all of you. Toothache is awful.
Share your stories of toothache affliction.Certainly. I have no wisdom teeth left these days, but each one of mine caused both agony, costs and considerable trouble. Not one of them grew in the correct direction. The first one was by far the worst, as it was in a very awkward position. I had to resort to surgery to get rid of it, and they used some kind of "nutcracker" to split it and remove it piece by piece. Ouch....

As for more recent events, an old filling snapped last week and took the better part of the tooth with it. I had to have it fixed in a hurry, and I'm really glad that my dentist was not on vacation. This time the wallet hurt more than the tooth, though.

I hope you get better soon.

Deepest sympathy, Leo and others who are having trouble with wisdom teeth - the dentist I visited in my teens foresaw difficulties with my wisdom teeth and took out back teeth to make room for them: the result was the wisdoms came through with no problems and spread into the gaps created for them.

My dentist is a lovely lady who is very skilled and gentle and reassuring - except that she has a liking for Tina Turner. It is very hard to remain tranquil while lying prone in her chair with a numb jaw while she mixes your amalgam stomping round the room singing along to 'River Deep and Mountain High'... I spent quite a bit of time in her company last year while she replaced fillings which had dropped out. ('It's your age, dear' - it always is.) Then I went on my travels and one evening bit into a delicious-looking tit-bit only to discover it wasn't soft like the rest of the nibbles I had tried, but was hard as a rock and covered in sticky honey. My newly filled tooth stuck hard into it and in the process of working it free I removed not only the snack but the filling and half the tooth. I spent the rest of the trip trying to remember to eat on the other side of my mouth and on my return hastened back to Tina Turner for a crown - as ClaesG said, it was the wallet that hurt more than the tooth. Why didn't I go to the dentist while I was away? I was sailing up the Yangtse at the time and at the next town we visited I discovered the local dentist had his consulting room in the front window of a shop in the main street and any passer-by could (and did) stop to watch the procedure - I didn't fancy passing into local legend as the screaming tourist!

This happened last year,
Started off by going to the dentist. Had to get a filling in my wisdom tooth on the upper right hand side. Was aparently bad and she told me i might get little pain. Couldnt eat fot 3hrs which eould mean 2.30pm.

After that headed the credit union and put money in my savings, my sisters savings and paid money off my mams loan. then off to the bank and paid money off my credit card. headed home.

Face was pretty numb and couldnt wait for the sensation to go away and i definitely couldnt wait till i could eat! It became a game of watch the clock! soon 2.30pm arrived, time to eat! made some noodles because they were soft and would be easy to eat on left side of mouth. As i started eating them the numbing finally went away and then Wham! my mouth exploded in pain and it shot through my head. I was in agony. Managed to take a couple of Tylex(a pain killer i have for my intercostal neuralgia, but an hour an ten minutes later and the pain was still horrendous! If i moved slightly, the pain shot through my nervous system in my head. With tears coming out of my eyes like a waterfall, and with my brothers help, i managed to keep my head so what still.

My mother who was visiting my Aunt in hospital arrived home at 4pm to find me in floods of tears. She rang the dentist...gone! Finished for the weekend! so off we went to the doctors. The doctor i saw had a good moan about dentists, and was very concerned about me. Told me that i shouldnt go to wotk tomorrow but when i explained to her that i was literally the boss tomorrow and that there would be no one to cover for me, she told me to make sure i didnt operate any machinery. She told me all she could do for me was give me painkillers and antibiotics as it appeared that the area around the tooth was inflamed. She also told my mam and me to maybe ring the dental hospital to find out if they have 24hr service as the filling may need to come back out again as the nerve may have been damaged. it also looks like i'm getting an absys.
Was put on an opiate called Tradol, which it turned out i was allergic to and i took a bad reaction to it the next day and thought i was going to pass out. Was later told by doctor that the tablets had the same effect on me as on someone who was overdosing. Scary. If i'd lay down and closed my eyes i may not have opened them again.
And all this because of a tooth ache.

I had to go in for surgery to have my wisdom teeth removed. They weren't hurting me, but they were severely impacted, and the dentist said they could have caused all kinds of problems. I had them all taken out at once. It wasn't that bad, other than the fact that the surgery was two days before Thanksgiving... no turkey and stuffing that year :(

Niamh - you poor thing, that sounds horrendous. But what happened? What happened? How did it all turn out? Did you loose the tooth? Have you sued the dentist? Tell us the end of the story, please!

I did nothing. That was the end of the story. Had to go back to the doc to make sure the Opiates hadnt done any damage to me and have not set foot in a dentists chair since.

Greetings Leo,

Ah,so thou realized how pain it was for thy wisdom tooth.

Lots of people have that disastrous situation, even my parents.

Poor thou,be sure to be gentle with thy tooth

And take care,I have no toothache afflictions.

Ah,by the way,

On the morrow,

I will have go in that unwelcome and uncomfortable dental clinic,

I would have a vast amount of sorrow.

I would not restrain my cries,

For it would be invariably painful while my tooth is plucked out

From my pleasant flesh.

I would be obliged with somebody who would bring me a packet of fries.

Well, I can't say that I feel alone! Toothache pains can be the worst, at least in my opinion. It can be such a painful little annoyance.
Thank you all.

Gosh Niamh!!! how did you manage to go through all that pain without going nuts! :bawling: No wonder you haven't set foot near a dentist since then! You've probably developed an allergy to them about as bad as your allergy to that Tradol stuff....

Leo, hang in there... hopefully you'll feel better soon....

Luckily, I don't remember any toothaches and my wisdom teeth are still somewhere below my gums. According to the dentist they'll stay where they are.... Fingers crossed cuz I certainly couldn't go through the pain you've all described.

Niahm, that is a horrifying story. I'm sorry that you had to endure all of that, especially all because of a tooth. I'm a bit nervous about getting my wisdom tooth taken out, but i'm sure that the horrible part is having it in, and that once out, i'll be fine.
