Looking down from the balcony
Of the newly-refurbished Lincoln Hotel,
Part of the Main Street Revival Project,
I am amused to see
Peeking through the new concrete sidewalk
A single dandelion flower…

I like it! The quietness before humans start to move around there! I like how the speaker and the flower meet each other, in their loneliness.

I envy you, and I wish I were you to have been able to write like this. In a few words and sentences you stuffed lots of ideas, all amazingly absorbing.

The Old Homeplace is just an empty lot,
The house long gone.
A local real estate sign
Drives its sharp stakes into my soft memories…

Funeral just the other day.
Little baby with severe head injuries.
Said it fell from a porch.
Why did I suspect murder?
Father arrested and charged with the crime.
Sadness abounds...

...As you have done to the least of these my little ones...

The old Post Office on Main Street
I used to buy stamps across that counter
Now, it's a local restaurant
The counter is now the bar
Buy you a drink?

to gossip around the flag pole
at the Post Office.
Nearby, the pigeons gather
on the roof of an abandoned building.
Which group digs up
the most dirt?

Oldest Graveyard in this town
Long before it took the name "Marion".
Nearby is a newly rebuilt Baptist Church,
Biggest sanctuary in town...
Which is more crowded on foggy nights...
