Well... there wasn't one here.... At least.... not that I was aware of! Then again its not like we can see the sky for the clouds anyhow!
(what with it being like the last month of winter here)

It has started here, and will last for two hours, until 6:00 PM.

I have been watching news and every channel shows to what extent it will be harmful for all the zodiacs, and what all the people born under that zodiac should be doing.

Anyhow, for the precautions, it is said that one should not venture out under the Sun during that time, as the rays are the most harmful. There are precautions for pregnant women. Also, how the food should be eaten that day is specified. So, these are some that I know and what I am seeing being telecast on the TV.

I dont plan to see it with the naked eye.

EDIT: There will also be Lunar eclipse on 16th August. And from what I see in the news, this phenomena is happening (solar eclipse, and then in the next 15 days the lunar eclipse) after 5000 years.

I heard about the eclipse earlier in the week but it wasn't visible from my neck of the woods.

Unfortunately I have not been able to see that eclipse; I can only content myself by viewing it through the ever-watchful Internet eye, which I am (sadly:bawling:) unable to do either, as I am too busy with my current homework, which I am rushing to turn in before 11:59 PM ('tis not cramming, I'm going after some bonus points!). I would so LOVE to watch a solar eclipse, though, because if one were visible here in my place it would be my first time to do so. :)

I saw it  I even got a photo... Though its not very good because I obviously wasnt looking though the lens just sort of pointing it in the right direction...and it was here a barely even partial eclipse... still mega cool though.

I've been milling around our village under the sun, and nothing happened to me. Come on, I do not believe that walking outside is gonna affect me. No way.

Certainly not! I am a student of science, and never was I able to catch a glimpse of such a thing in the pages of all the books I have read, except perhaps in the part where they talk about various scientific myths.;) Say, where are you from, Amylian?:)

this one is of the sun itself the red circle to the right of the sun is what the eclipse looked like through a film.

:DNothing total about it around these parts, I'm afraid, but yes, I saw it. Unfortunately, there will be no total eclipse here until well into the 22'nd century, and I am not altogether certain that I will still be around at that time. ;)

Still, a partial eclipse is definitely worth watching, and in spite of a lot of cloud cover, we were able to see it.

Safety precautions are essential as soon as you direct your gaze anywhere near old sol, and in my case it was a simple matter: I nicked a spare welding mask from our maintenance workshop before I went out to have a look.

I suppose that I also ought to mention the upcoming Perseids meteor shower on 12/8 and the (also partial) lunar eclipse 16/8.

For those interested I suggest the site Stardate online (http://stardate.org/) (which I am in no way associated with).

Do we need special glasses or whatever to view a lunar eclipse? I know Ive seen partials before from my window when I was little but who knows if I damaged my eyes doing that?
A metor shower ... I probably wont be able to see that in a big city will I ? :(

A decent thing to cite that.

I went to my towns observatory yesterday. They had fancy looking thingies too that made the sight bigger but basically they just let people look the eclipse through the inside of a floppy disk - it made everything red, but the image was very clear. Was a partial eclipse only, but still worth watching.

It was only partial here, but I was (not for the first time) unable to see it because of heavy cloud cover. :(

Oh, well, maybe next time.

I had forgetten about the lunar eclipse but I chanced to look out of the window about 11.20 (GMT +1) last night because the sky was so bright after a day of heavy and persistent rain - and saw the moon partially covered (occluded?). It was a lucky sighting because ten minutes later the clouds were back and there was no more moonlight for the rest of the night.
