Being an immense Batman fan, I was in a fit of stupor to discover the conception of The Joker was influenced by one of Victor Hugo's novels, the Man Who Laughs. Does this novel exceed in historical context and gorgeous prose like The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and Les Miserables?
