"Summer Daze"
I love the warmth of summertime,
when the fewest clothes needs I carry!
All else, shucked off gratefully,
that the breeze and skin might marry!
I love the smell of earth in pots,
the perfume of the flowers.
The brightness of the hummingbird,
seen in cool and shady bowers.
Ice cold beer, in equal parts,
to the sweat that doth transpire.
Until that unseen sign erased...
"One humongous thirst, for hire!"
#2 "Pre-history"
I used to ride the trolley,
in the prehistoric times!
Pull the cord at every stop,
just to hear those heavenly chimes!
The "crack" of live electricity,
would start my hair on end,
as the over-head attaching rods,
jerked, and jumped around a bend!
The cost was but a penny,
supplied by me dear old mum!
And, although 'twas just a penny,
it was still a goodly sum!
A penny would buy
four wraps of sweets,
lots of bubble-gum.
Half a six by sixer...
Or, one humongous sticky-bun!
goldenrod.
