Has anyone here read the German Bildungsroman Effi Briest by the poetic realist Theodor Fontane (1819 - 1898) ?

I was only wondering:) because I liked it very much.
It is of course less well known than Anna Karenina or Madame Bovary but nevertheless depicts similar tragedies.

Effi Briest is a wonderful book. I read it in the original German years ago, Fontane's style is pure pleasure.

If you liked this one, check out Rainer Werner Fassbinder's cinematic adaptation-- one of the best, and highly recommended.
