Once upon a time, there were four wise Indian men who knew nearly everything and were often asked to solve the most difficult problems. One day people discussed which one was the wisest. One of the elders thought out a test to show who was the wisest.
The four men were told to walk into a field. Their test would be found under a cedar tree in the field. The next morning they came to the tree and found a large pile of bones under it. They appeared to be those of an animal.
The four puzzled over the bones for some time before the first man spoke, “I will use my knowledge to put these bones back together.” After some time, the bones stood upright.
The second man said, “I can put flesh and fur back on them and bring back the animal’s beauty.” After a while a fierce-looking bear stood before them.
The third man then spoke up, “I believe I can bring the bear back to life.”
The fourth man had been quiet until now. “Wait! I don’t think our test was to see if we could bring the animal back to life.” He pleaded, but the others would not listen. He quietly climbed to the top of the cedar tree and watched.
The third man finally breathed life into the bear using his great talents. The bear roared and ran after the men all the way back to the village. Luckily, they were finally rescued by the villagers.
Later, the fourth wise man walked back to the village. Everyone had taken him for dead.
