Hello! First of all, I'm new to this forum, my name is Marķa and I'm 19.
I have a subject at university that is about Canada, its regions and its literature. I chose it because I didn't have many options, but it has nothing to do with my studies (translation and interpreting). The problem is that I have to write an essay of around 15 pages about a Canadian book of my choice and analyse the way space is constructed in the text.
An example the teacher gave me is "Forms and Function of the Depiction of the Canadian Prairie in Sinclair Ross`s As For Me and My House" , can anyone help me? If someone could give me a title of a Canadian book (if it's a nice book to read it would be even better) that talks about a Canadian region I would be very thankful!
Thanks!!!

Margaret Lawrence's, ' Stone Angel'.....Another by Margaret Lawrence, and possibley one of her finest.....'The Diviners'. Considered some of Canada's better literary works, these two should be available pretty well anywhere in the world.

If you are studying in Canada, these will be available at any library.

Good luck...........

Thank you very much for your input.
I study in Germany although right now I'm in Spain (my homeland). I will look for those books when I get back to Germany.
I would like to ask you a couple questions, do the stories those books tell take place in Canada? I ask because in my essay I have to talk about the book and the way it describes space (a Canadian region). Where do they take place?
Thanks!

...yes both stories take place in Canada, specific places and times, but I'm less clear on the specifics you are looking for than I thought I was. I assumed (never a good thing) you were interested in fiction? Both these stories take place in Canada, but both are fiction, both explore different areas of the country, but they are by no means a geographical travelogue of the country......

Yes fiction is perfect, as long as it is realistic. All I need is that they mention enough things of the country so that I can write about them I think. I will ask my teacher what he thinks about these books.
Thank you very very much :) that was very helpful.
