On another forum, soemone mentioned this site called Poll of the People, which had a list of the top 100 books, accordning to the general public, and I always enjoy reading book lists so I decided to take a look.

On the list there was a book called Birdsong: A Novel of Love and War by Sebastian Faulks and the titile sounded interesting so I decided to look it up, and though it seemed to have gotton good reviews, I could not find any information about the content of the book itself, any sort of synopisis of the plot, and such of the like, other than it seems to be about WW1.

I was just wondering if anyone has read this book, and if so could provide me with a little information about it that would not give too much away.

Hi. I have a copy of this book, which I haven't read yet, (another of those books there just waiting to be read on that pile!) As you say, it is about WW1but I think there's a love story in there too, which possibly started prior to the war, between an English man and French woman. I'm not certain, so don't quote me, but it has got great reviews. I have read some bad reviews too, but I think there's more positive than negative. I don't know if you have read any more of Faulks work, but I'm intending to. He's very erudite, and he is a regular on a radio programme in the UK, (I don't know if you're UK based), where they have to write a parody of a famous author's style. He's very good at capturing the essence of them. If you're a Bond fan, he was also chosen to write the latest Bond book, which has also got good reviews, although I don't read Bond myself. What was the poll you saw it in, as we had something called "The Big Read" a few years ago, which was the 100 best books voted for by the public, and it was on there, I think, quite high up? If you read it, let us know what you think, 'cos I have planned to read it for a while now. :)

Yeah, it was on The Big Read, possibly in the top 21.

I read it couple of months ago. Here is the review I wrote about it:

The Poll I saw it on was an online poll called pollthepeople.com.

Thank you for the responses, I will have a look at that review
