Even though I normally read Western, more specifically German, Russian and to a lesser extent other European literatures, every once in a while I like to pick up a work by a Korean author.
I do not have any personal ties to this country or an overly interest in its culture aside from my curiosity in the division of the nation and the following consequences for the people.

My two favourite Korean writers are Hwang Sok-yong and Yi Mun-yol, the former especially for his The Garden of Yesterday, the latter for his famous Our Twisted Hero. Unfortunately, due to rare and bad translations, I cannot read as much as I would like to. :(

Does anyone else here share this general interest in Korean literature, and if you do, the unavoidable question is of course: which authors and works have you read and can recommend?
