Another year has passed, so it's time to recycle the thread in which we all make those arbitrary lists of what's been the best of 2004.
Anyway, name which has been your favourite movie and music album of the past year, and say why.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was probably the best. It had a creative plot, beautiful imagery, great acting, good comedy, good romance. It was all around the best I've seen in awhile and sort of pisses me off that I don't own it.

As far as CDs, whew. I want to say a band called Remembering Never, or maybe even Misery Signals. I'll settle on a band called Glass Casket though, with their album "We Are Gathered Here Today" because it was a heartfelt hardcore album with impactful lyrics and breakdowns that never quit. I luckily got to see them sing the entire album live in March because some other band didn't show up and seeing them sing the last song on the album just makes you want to scream out in joy or pain because it is so impactful. You can read them here (http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/glasscasket/wearegatheredheretoday.html#9) if need be. It doesn't seem like much, but when you listen to it, it makes much more sense.

Was the 3rd episode of Lord of The Rings released in 2004? If yes, that's my most fav movie of the year. Reason..??? Oh, please, I don't think I need to explain why...

Best Music: I have nothing in particular, it's just that last year was the year when I heard of The Pixies' songs for the first time (poor me :bawling:). So I guess that's pretty special..;)

the best album was Fallen by Evanescence and the best movie would be Goodbye Lenin (a German movie)

Yes, I agree with that. I wanted to write that Lost in Translation was the best but it's actually from 2003. As for the music How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb by U2 (I've heard they may come to Poland this year. That would be grrrrrrrrreat  ).

I think..until this very moment of writing this...how to dismantle is a little bit overrated ;).

how to dismantle is overrated and it's (using an euphemism) not as good as the rest of u2's albums, but i like them sooooooooooooo much that actually it doesn't matter

Yes, Return of the King is eligible, although I wouldn't mind seeing an argument or two regarding why it was chosen.
Fallen, on the other hand, was released in 2003, so it's not valid.
I'd post my own, but I'm still making up my mind here. Just a while.

After giving it some thought, I ended up with two unoriginal favourites:

MOVIE
The Return of the King - Hardly a surprise, I think this one astonished a lot of people, mainly those who had been disappointed with the first two such as myself. Unlike its predecessors, it is actually an adaptation of the book and does a good job in containing the spirit of the LotR story, a key element missing on the first ones. The scenes are greatly depicted, and even the ones that weren't present in the book don't hamper the rest of hte film. The battle, the undead army, the burning of the ring and the death of Gollum were just exactly what I had in mind. You can't help but feeling glad when that happens with a book adaptation. It just leaves me wondering, why didn't they make the same effort for the first movies?
Honorable mention: Aaltra, End of the Century.
Dishonorable mention: Alien vs. Predator.

ALBUM
U2:How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb - I love U2, but I didn't find difficult at all to hate them for their last works (All That You Can't Leave Behind, the 2nd greatest hits volume, some soundtrack songs). With this one, they made a comeback, not only in presence, but in essence too. Unlike the last one, this one does have that U2 air to it. Good all around songs, decent lyrics, and no traces of recent mistakes are the main reasons to listen to this one. Plus, there some songs that can easily be adopted as favourites (all because of you, city of blinding lights, vertigo itself). Even the name, which sounds too long and out of place is given sense (a reference to the death of Bono's father), so there are no issues left uncared for.
Honorable mention: Franz Ferdinand (Franz Ferdinand), You Are the Quarry (Morrisey)
(Very) Dishonorable mention: Scissor's Sisters (Floyd WILL be avenged!)

Movie: This was hard but I went with HERO (the movie Quinten Tarentino brought to the U.S. from China) over THE PUNISHER.

Album: Scotish Rant (found it just recently despite the fact it came out in 2000)

Excuse me? Hero was by Tarantino? I don't think so...

Tarantino brought it to the U.S. My earlier post says nothing about him doing all the directing and stuff.
