Reverse Echo?
I have this unsettled, eerie feeling,
of having been this way before.
Familiar is the garden,
and I know that old oak door!
The path down to the river,
unseen, a wooden chair.
I'm sure the dock it sits upon,
has rotting boards, and needs repair.
But I live in the city,
my first time to venture forth,
and it's silly to imagine
that I know this place, of course?!
Perhaps, a picture I'm remembering,
from a long lost magazine,
or a trysting place resembling,
in a movie that I've seen?
Subtle hints surrounding me,
stir a memory, not quite recalled.
I anticipate so many sounds,
before, on my ear they fall.
I should feel that it's disquietening,
unhappy in this thrall,
But an inner voice keeps telling me
I'm at peace, So it's not that way, at all!
Is it but a recollection of things
dredged, from an unreal past.
An alternative direction,
that did not come to pass?
I've heard of similar conjectures,
do they call it "deja vu"?
A strong feeling of belonging that,
sudden, comes over you!
Maybe it is addition,
of a totally different sum,
the first faint reverse echo,
of a future, yet to come!
