Keeping in mind that I haven't seen any of their fiction, I think the best writers on litnet are:
1.Petrarch's Love
2.StLukesGuild
3.Drkshadow03
4.JBI
5.Virgil
6.Kafka's Crow
7.Quark
8.BlueVictim
However, my experience of this forum is limited almost entirely to the literature and poetry sections. I'm sure there are impressive talents who largely hang out in the Religion, Philosophy, Writing, and General boards which I have yet to meet. I do not mean to snub anyone through my own ignorance, and so I choose to acknowledge this list as incomplete.

miyako73

reading miyako73's story "God's Child" made me realize that there was stuff worth reading here. I've read other good stuff here since then, but that one remains my favorite.

I think I'm going to have to go with miyako, too. Really knows how to make a powerful short story.

I think PrinceMyshkin is the most accomplished poet here.

Damn it! Number two! Petrarch you're next!:flare:

:lol:Seriously, I'm flattered, Mortal... coming from you. Especially considering that writing isn't even my area of discipline. Perhaps I should think about going the route of William Blake: merge writing with art. Hmmm....

I second that, before adding a few more to his list as below. My training is in mathematics. I tend to prefer precise and concise statements, possibly with elaboration but without superfluous details.

quasimodo1,
mono,
Mr. Endon,
Neely,
Kasie,
Coberst (He stays in philosophical literature and I am not sure whether he goes anywhere else.),
Mortalterror, you were not bad yourself in my opinion.

That shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Most of the people on my list have masters degrees and teach; so they are all skilled communicators. You, Virgil, and Kafka have all had decades to hone the craft and polish your ideas. In contrast, JBI is still young and relatively inexperienced, but with enormous potential. I remember being floored at the difference between his writing style before he went to Italy last summer and when he returned. He grew by leaps and bounds. If he added a touch of Petrarch's or Virgil's sophisticated gentility, or kindness, and then combined those traits with your encyclopedic knowledge and some humility he would be the complete writer.

Each of you has some element of style which I admire, and seek to learn from and emulate. My knowledge of the classics pales in comparison to BlueVictim's. He knows ancient Greek and can read Homer in the original. Kafka is a specialist in my weakest field: postmodernism. Quark never fails to leave insightful, full bodied, thought-filled comments wherever he goes.

When I came to Litnet I read most of your, Virgil, and Petrarch's posts and blogs. It's on those that I base my estimate. Judging by your own work, I'd be very interested to see what you'd produce.

HaHa, I beat Virgil!; just kidding.

I think, if you were to mix forms like Blake, interesting things could happen - I'm currently working on a project similar to that, though it isn't quite like that since I am thinking of mixing colligraphy and other forms into the mix, rather than have the text merely as a commentary, or aspect of the picture. Of course, my handwriting is rather meh, so I'd need to collaborate with someone, or some people, yet the concept is interesting in a sense - I'm wondering what I could cook up mixing English text with abstract painting forms, but seeing as I can't paint, I doubt my idea will go anywhere - either way, the idea is precedented, to an extent, so there perhaps isn't a point.

Anyway, I better go, my computer is about to die.

Have read a few blogs now, and yes some of them are very good; some well written and some very entertaining. I'm not sure that I've read enough from people on here yet, though, to judge them on their writing. I would probably just be judging them on their opinions and viewpoints, which is not the purpose of this thread.

I was confused by the whole blog thing because it appears I have a blog that contains a sonnet I wrote ages ago. I'm guessing it has something to do with the old poetry section on here being shut down and any poetry submitted to it getting turned into blogs? I haven't really figured out the whole blogging thing on here yet (I am a self-confessed technophobe) but I'm getting there.

I feel like I should read more of the submissions on the Writing subforums as well. I didn't really ever go near them until recently but I would assume there are some good pieces on there? I also think it is probably rude, since I worked up the courage to submit a piece, not to read other people's submissions if I expect any sort of feedback on mine.

...Thanks for the compliment, mortalterror. My posts generally don't get many responses, and I always get the feeling that most people here dismiss them as nonsense, so it's very gratifying to know that someone out there finds some of them interesting. I've enjoyed your posts, too, of course. It's nice to know there is someone else here with a real interest in the classics. :)

Produce in terms of writing? I really wish I could just one day sit and write an extended work. Perhaps when I retire it will be my goal. Actually if you check my blogs I try to write in a personal essay style.

Still, I beat JBI. This makes me happy!
