Due to the lateness of a July poll, I've decided not to do a July reading, but there will be a book to read for those who want it.

The book is A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. Enjoy :D.

So, we're moving on to August!

August is going to be modern classics month, and so that means that we have to pick books written after the year 1980.

And this month, there will be a poll.

But we're gonna shake things up a little bit, because we are going to pick TWO, count 'em, TWO books this month.

And YOU get to choose which one you want to read. You don't have to read both, just pick one.

So enjoy August!

That means that the books for this month are:

Diary, by Chuck Palahniuk. Read more at the below link.

Diary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diary_%28novel%29)

IT, by Stephen King. This book is pretty massive, so read quickly! Read more at the below link.

IT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It_%28novel%29)

WLT: A Radio Romance by Garrison Keillor. Dont' listen to the reviews, this is an excellent read. Read more at the below link:

WLT: A Radio Romance (http://www.amazon.com/WLT-Radio-Romance-Garrison-Keillor/dp/0140103805)

The Alchemist by Paul Coelho. Read more at the below link:

Those are the books!

I have wanted to read The Alchemist for a while now so that gets my vote for August.

I am glad that we are back

I may not be able to join in the discussion, but seconded Joreads vote.

Diary seems a bit insane to me, in terms of its premise, and sorry Sea, but I will never pick up another Stephen King novel. I do not despise all of his work, just most of it.

Alrighty then. 3 for The Alchemist, 2 for Diary, 1 for IT.

Hello everyone.

Am new here and would be very happy to join you.

I also voted for The Alchemist.

I must say that this vote is rather selfish because:

1/I've read most of Coelho's book but not that one and I'm curious to see why it sold so many copies;

2/ I would have voted for WLT: A Radio Romance or Diary (although as Jozanny said it does look a bit insane)to discover something new but in my part of the world, it's really not easy to find books in English and I have forbidden myself to buy any new books in the coming weeks :)

As for IT, sorry Seabird, but I've read a lot of Stephen King's books and cannot get myself to read anymore.

I've read The Alchemist already, and it didn't impress me of Coelho as a writer or the book as a whole. Therefor I voted for Diary, as it's written by an author I've never read anything by before, but have wanted to for some time now.

Anything BUT The Alchemist by Paul Coelho... it's really overrated.

I'll join in since the other one doesn't take too long to do. I voted for It, but I can pull for the alchemist too. I've been seeing it everywhere in the bookstore so it looks good too. I've read some of Chuck Palahniuk and I wasn't impressed.

It's not decided yet, and it's no hurry, since August hasn't started yet and we're just halfway into July. :) But if I can guess, then The Alchemist have close to won already (unfortunately).

Fear not, Thelastmelon.

Somewhere in the topic post, I said that we will read TWO books, (I didn't really want to read The Alchemist either, but hey, need variety), and so therefore, it looks as though it could be any of the other three.

And you don't have to read both. You can read one or the other.
